$100 Room Challenge- Week 1

Hello everyone and welcome!!!  Can I just tell you how stinkin’ excited I am to participate in this fun challenge for the first time ever!!! For those not familiar with the $100 Room Challenge, the idea is this:  you give yourself $100 budget and one month to see how completely you can transform a room.

As soon as I  heard about this challenge from Lemons, Lavender, Laundry, I knew exactly which room I was going to makeover.  Are you ready to see the before photos?!

100 Room ChallengeWelcome to our bathroom/laundry room.   This is actually my husband’s bathroom, and when we had a 15 year old living with us, it was the bathroom he used as well.  So basically, a stinky, smelly, boy bathroom that I avoided like the plague.

As you can see, its not terrible.  Everything was very nicely maintained when we bought our home just over a year ago, but some things were starting to look a little dated.  Also, if you’ve known me for more than 5 minutes, you know the rest of my house is white and I just don’t do colors on walls.

After using 10 gallons of paint getting the rest of the house painted for move-in day, I was SO not up to the challenge of painting this bathroom.  I knew with all the cutting-in and brushwork required, I was going to hate painting it, so it remained seafoam green.

But no longer I tell you! Again, its not even a bad color, and there’s nothing terrible about the space, but I’m very passionate about making my home MY home, so that green is gonna go.

I have big plans for those cabinets over there, let me tell you! I also can’t wait to add some hardware to make them pop!  Don’t pretend you don’t read books on the dryer, too. 😉

Cheesy grin!  That’s literally the only thing I like about this photo!! Do you see how off-centered the cabinets are over the washer and dryer?  Our gas hose wasn’t long enough to move them over any further, so this is where they have sat.  Quite possibly my biggest pet peeve because, a) I get trapped in a corner every time I load the washer and b) our ugly hamper is the first thing you see when you walk in because there isn’t room to hide it against the wall and c) because the cabinets hang over, its a really dangerous corner that I hit my head on at least once a week.  My hubby also hit his head on it really hard the other day when we were looking at fixing the situation, so I think he’s on board now with fixing it, he just got assistance with the arena rigging for the heavy lifting:)

I have some BIG plans for this space and I just can’t wait to share my design ideas with you next week!!! I’m thinking white walls, gray cabinets, gold hardware, and maybe even a backslash will really pull this place from slightly dated to absolutely fabulous!!

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go grab a paintbrush and get to work on this $100 Room Challenge!  See you next Wednesday with an update!!!

4 Ways To Help Your Child’s Self-Regulation

Self regulation is one of those things no one notices it until its not there.  Many children with Sensory Processing Disorder and other special needs lack self-regulation.  So what exactly is self-regulation?  And how do you help your child get it? Simply put, self-regulation is your ability to control your behavior and respond appropriately to your immediate […]

Living Room Toy Storage

I think one of the biggest decorating challenges people get hung up on is kid’s toy storage in living areas.  Living room toy storage is no joke–I mean, do toys multiply at night when we’re sleeping!? Where do they all come from?! But I think the saddest thing you could do is decide that since you […]

Modern Farmhouse Staircase Makeover

Does it mean you’re old and boring when you get excited about a staircase makeover? Like most of the projects in our new (old) house, I think this falls under the “refresh” category, more than the renovation category. All we needed was some paint, some runner rugs from an online store for stylish large rugs, […]

I think I would probably take it as is, just to have a laundry room with space for laundry!! Excited to see what you do here.

Oh what a fun space to redo! Can’t wait to see how it all comes together. I am planning to redo mine sometime soon but my plans are already well over $100! I have this vision of tiled floors that is putting me over. Ha ha!

Thanks, Melissa! I’m kinda scared to commit to gold in our kitchen reno, so I figure this will be a good test drive!
