My name is Megan and I am a small business owner, writer, and mother to an adorable little girl, Elise. Like most kids, Elise is full of energy and curiosity. Unlike most kids, she has something called Sensory Processing Disorder. If you’re anything like me, you had never heard that term before! The main reason I started this blog was to raise awareness for kids with Sensory Processing Disorder and create a support network for the parents of these kids.
Raising children is tough. If you have a child with special needs, you know the extra work and struggles that can make just getting through the day seem like an insurmountable challenge. I have sooooooo been there. In the darkest days, when 100% of my energy went to making sure we were just surviving, I felt like I had nothing left over. Nothing to invest in myself, let alone other people. I was overwhelmed with how complicated life had become, and decided to set out to simplify things. The most helpful thing that happened to me was talking with other moms who had been there and knew exactly what I was going through.
So, that’s what we do here. We share stories of encouragement and we keep it real. Raising children with special needs is not easy, and when we try to do it alone, it is impossible. My goal is to connect you with resources that can help get you the answers you need, and help your child function at his/her highest level. I hope you walk away from The Definery Co inspired to help your family live life to the fullest, no matter what your situation may be.
If you don’t have a special needs child, The Definery Co website is more than just SPD! It is a lifestyle blog dedicated to the things that are most important to me like wellness, living with less, and of course, DIY projects.
We will get along just fine if:
- You can smell a good thrift store a mile away
- You would run that same mile just to get to a good cup of coffee
- You binge watch Friends any time you get the chance
- You’d rather redo an old dresser someone gave you for free than buy a brand new one
- You have a strange preoccupation with wanting to see inside other people’s houses and even “sneak” a tour if one is not offered to you…. No one? Just me then?
