Spring at the Farmhouse – Home Tour

spring at the farmhouse

Happy Spring, everyone!! It may be chilly outside, but we are in full spring mode for our Spring At The Farmhouse Home Tour, where I have teamed up with 8 other talented bloggers to show you how we do spring, farmhouse style!  If you are visiting from Kelly at The Tattered Pew, welcome!

It was exactly a year ago March that we moved into our home, and it seems appropriate to celebrate by reflecting on how far we’ve come on this tour.

So come on in!  Grab a cup of coffee (or other hot beverage of your choice–I don’t discriminate!! :)) and make yourself at home!

Spring is my favorite time of year to decorate, and if we’re being honest, I’ve had my spring decorations up since my Christmas décor came down.  We had our front door painted a cheery blue a few months ago via an interior painting service, and it just screams “spring,” to me that went well contrasted with the wall clock that I purchased recently from BestWallClock.com at the best bargain.

If you walk through that front door, this is what you’ll see…

I’ve always wanted to live in an older home, so getting our hands on this circa 1890’s beauty was, quite literally, a dream come true.  Original woodwork and creaky wooden floors–my heart was in heaven!  I’ve tried to keep our décor very simple and neutral so that the character of the home gets to be the star.

And the windows, guys…

My number one requirement in a home is that it have excellent natural light.  While this entryway wasn’t always a bundle of light (you can see the transformation, here) there’s no better accessory to spring décor than good old fashioned sunlight!

From the entryway, if you turn right, you’ll enter our living room.

I love pops of green any time of year, but they feel especially fitting for spring.

I like to decorate around the big black box by repurposing a centerpiece I made for Christmas and filling it with spring greens.

Just off our living room is our master bedroom.

Clean white sheets and a green wreath=spring to me!

spring home tour

Our bedroom (and closet) are super tiny, so dressers are a must in this space!  I love the hand painted sign a friend made for me, and it’s such a lovely reminder to wake up to.

Right next to our bedroom is our dining room!

If you haven’t noticed, I like to keep things pretty simple, so a tiny green centerpiece was jus the ticket for our farmhouse table.

And of course our coffee shrine–I mean bar! Coffee bar!– got a little spring greenery as well.

If you head out the French doors in our dining room, you’ll find yourself in our sunroom.

spring home tourMy husband built the daybed, and we got the mirror and Hoosier cabinet for free!  It houses all our swimming suits, towels and other pool supplies for summer fun.

That daybed is the best place to catch a nap on a warm spring day!

If you walk through the dining room, you’ll get to my favorite room in the house…

Our three year old calls this room the “ballroom” because in her mind, it’s a room just for dancing. And dance, we do. 🙂

I’ve enjoyed curling up with a  good book by the fireplace my husband just built for us.  Didn’t he do a fantastic job?! That mantle was actually a giant tree that we chopped down on my in-law’s property and he and my father-in-law created the rough-hewn mantle from it! I’ve had so much fun styling it for spring!

I’m loving our brand new rug that we purchased for this space–it really brightens it up, and makes it feel “springy,” in my opinion.   Fun fact: those wing chairs were a score from my church. They sat in our church’s foyer longer than I’ve been alive! I remember sitting on them before Christmas pageants, before getting baptized, and even my wedding day.   You’d better believe I snatched them right up when they were getting rid of them!

spring home tourThe piano got spring-ified with some greenery and candles.  You can also see Fern, our giant palm plant in her new spring basket.  I’m not the only one that names houseplants, right? …..Right?

Well guys, now we’re right back where we started.  I had so much fun taking you through our spring home tour, and I hope you enjoyed your visit!

The next stop on this Spring At the Farmhouse Home Tour is the lovely Areeba of Mint Candy Designs.  Tell her hello, from me!
